From Play to Progress: numiknow® Build on Lessons Learned

The third iteration in the Hoedspruit area of the Social Employment Fund (SEF 3), part of South Africa’s Presidential Employment Stimulus, is under way in the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere Region. Running from November 2025 to July 2026, the project builds directly on lessons learned during SEF 1 and SEF 2, with a strong focus on mathematical proficiency through the numiknow® approach.

The lack of mathematical proficiency in our society today – a counter-cyclical twist in this struggle offers hope

An ingenious mathematical game based on dominoes has been created and developed here in Hoedspruit by Thias Taute. This game will surely help bridge that gap for individuals, taking them from borderline mathematical illiteracy to mathematical proficiency – sorely needed in a country where almost 50% of learners are failing mathematics in Grade 12.
