The Editors Desk – Story Competition

“A day in the life of …..”

It is with great excitement that we get to the second half of the year and open the gates to young creative juices. Kruger2Canyon News is happy to launch their first story competition.

We are calling on all young writers aged 14 years and younger – we want your stories!

“A day in the life of ….” – you fill in the gaps. A dragon doing it homework. Your dog on a Saturday. A raindrop falling from a cloud to the sea. A superhero on their day off. Pick a character, real or imagined, and tell us about one day in their life. Make us laugh, make us think, maybe make us cry, but surprise us.

Word Limits:

  • Ages 5 – 8: max 150 words
  • Ages 9 – 11: max 300 words
  • Ages 12 – 14: max 500 words

How to Enter: Email your story to mbishk2c@gmail.com, with the child’s full name, age and a parent/guardian contact number. No details, no entry.

Prize: R1 000.00 book voucher

Dates: Opens 15:00, 28th August 2026 – Closes 15:00, 28th November 2026 – no late entries will be considered.

Rules: There will only be one winner, selected overall from the finalists in each age category. The Editor’s decision is final. The prize is non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. Winners will be announced in the December 2026 edition of Kruger2Canyon News.
