If anyone doubted whether Hoedspruit needed a new place to gather, laugh, eat, sip, shop, mingle and generally let its hair down, the opening of The Neighbour Hoed at Zandspruit Boulevard settled it. The place launched with a bang – live music blaring, pizzas spinning out of the oven, drinks flowing under the old fig tree, and enough foot traffic to convince even the sceptics that Hoedspruit has a brand-new destination on its hands.

Hello again fellow bushbabies! This month we did the inconceivable – we ordered take aways! Not something that we EVER do – but with the weather a little inclement for Hoedspruit standards (as we have come to know), we decided to give it a bash.

Well, we finally got our act together and ventured forth to try out another eatery! We actually got lost

Hello lovely people of Hoedspruit. I have been away for a while, savouring delicacies in the fair Cape. It was good eating, quaffing good pale-yellow stock, and basically relaxing and having a good time.

This time I ventured forth into the wild for Father’s Day – a test for any establishment, what with unruly adults, screaming kids and other irate patrons. Our target was The Bush Pub and Inn, close to the Timbavati/Klaserie gate.

As winter is here, and the nights are wonderfully crispy, I thought that a good spot to try out would be Kalimambo in the Kamagelo Centre. A decent curry would go down well, washed with a robust glass of red or a fruity white – what better way to spend an evening with friends.

Just when we all thought a new dynamic restaurant would never appear on the Hoedspruit map, bang! And here it is – situated at the Farm House

South Africa is synonymous with the “braai”, and with various cuts of meats marinaded and spiced and lovingly turned over hot coals. But what if you are not a big meat eater, what are you going to eat at your next braai?
