Do you believe your restaurant is the best in the Hoedspruit area? Are you ready to put your food, service, and atmosphere to the ultimate test? Picky View and Kruger2Canyon News are launching an exciting new competition to determine Hoedspruit’s Best Restaurant – and we want YOU to enter!

Over the next six to eight months, we will be visiting and reviewing participating restaurants to find out who truly stands out. A panel of anonymous, undercover judges will evaluate each establishment based on food quality, service, ambiance, and overall dining experience. The best part? Every restaurant that enters will be featured in a dedicated monthly column in the publication, giving you valuable exposure and publicity!

How It Works

Enter the Competition – To participate, restaurants must advertise at least once in the publication during the competition period (details available). This not only supports our community publication but also ensures visibility for your establishment.

Secret Judges Visit – Throughout the next six months, our panel of anonymous judges will visit each participating restaurant unannounced to experience your food and service first-hand.

Monthly Features – Each month, we will highlight a selection of restaurants in Picky View, showcasing their strengths, any special dishes, and overall impressions from the judges.

The Grand Finale – At the end of the competition, the restaurant with the highest overall judges score will be crowned Hoedspruit’s Best Restaurant, receiving a prestigious trophy and certificate (valid for a year) to celebrate their achievement! The judge’s decision is final.

Why Enter?

Your restaurant will gain valuable publicity through the Kruger2Canyon News. You will receive constructive feedback from our undercover judges. We hope that you will attract more customers eager to try the best-rated restaurants. To crown all this you will compete for the ultimate title of Hoedspruit’s Best Restaurant and enjoy the bragging rights that come with it!

If you’re ready to showcase your establishments culinary skills, and prove that your restaurant is the best in town, enter now!

Entries are open for the duration of the event (subject to an advert being taken in the publication), so don’t miss this incredible opportunity to put your restaurant on the map. Let the competition begin – and may the best restaurant win!

To sign up, or if you have any queries, simply email the editor at editor@kruger2canyon.co.za with your restaurant’s name, location, contact person and email address – and we will be in touch with you.

Innovation – What Survives Is What Learns

The termite mound had been breached by an African honey badger. The excavation bore the characteristic signature of its typically furious, single-minded digging, a cone of loose red soil fanned out across the surrounding ground. The mound itself, a two-metre column of compacted earth on the edge of a drainage line in the Sabi Sand, had a jagged opening at its base roughly the size of a football.

A Year of Bird Song: Celebrating the Big Year of African Sounds

I have spent much of my birding journey fortunate enough to listen for birds before I see them. Long before a Narina Trogon reveals its almost incomprehensible palette of colours, its harsh, frog-like call often gives it away. Long before you begin to realise that summer has arrived, the duet of a Woodland Kingfisher pair echoes through the woodland. Their arrival marking the true onset of summer. For anyone who has spent time birding, sound is not a supplement to birding. Rather, it is often the first, only, and most reliable clue that nature presents you with.
