A Spring of Hope, a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting rural South African schools with essential resources such as water, sanitation, life skills, and entrepreneurship, recently celebrated the first graduation of its women entrepreneurship program.
The program focused on equipping young women with essential entrepreneurial skills, blending theoretical knowledge with practical experience throughout the course. Key areas of instruction included leadership and social responsibility, marketing for small businesses, financial management for small businesses and sector-specific technical skills.
Throughout the program, students receive mentorship and guidance, creating a strong sense of unity and teamwork among the participants.
The graduation ceremony took place at the Nourish Eco Village, located along Orpen Road. The event began with an exhibition where students showcased their businesses and products. Some students worked in teams, while others ventured solo in their entrepreneurial journeys. Their creations included beautiful handcrafted jewelry, traditional clothing, and sustainable low-voltage lighting. The students proudly displayed their work, exuding excitement and satisfaction with their accomplishments.
Following the exhibition, the graduation ceremony was held, led by Ms Nelly Mofokeng, the Executive Director of A Spring of Hope. The students were praised for their dedication and achievements, with several board members, including Ms Gail Auguston-Koppen and CEO, Ms Joanne Roy-Young, offering words of encouragement.
Guest speakers Mr. Keletso Mnisi and Mr. Energy Zitha shared valuable insights with the graduates, offering practical advice on managing business finances, setting up and sustaining a business, and maintaining a positive outlook in the face of challenges.
The day was a celebration of hard work, committment, and the spirit of entrepreneurship, filled with joy, laughter, and even some dancing! Congratulations to all the graduates, and we wish them much success in their future endeavors.
Nourish was created as a platform linking conservation with community issues and ideals, finding integrated sustainable solutions to issues plaguing conservation such as wildlife crime, poverty, low levels of education and food insecurity. We work towards growing resilient wildlife communities through engagement in conservation and sustainable development through integrated and holistic project based programming.
