Recently Pick ‘n Pay staged a ‘Bowls by candlelight’ fund raising event at Drakensig . The event saw 24 teams of four bowlers per team, taking part. It was also well attended by an enthusiastic audience of supporters.
Between 3 to 6 November 2022, St Lucia Ski-Boat Club hosted a ‘ladies only’ fishing tournament, called the Queens of the Ocean Ladies Deep Sea Angling Tournament 2022. Four intrepid ladies from Hoedspruit entered a team called “Women that Fish”.
Lizelle is the owner of Paintsmiths Hoedspruit. I was certainly drawn in by her enthusiasm and demeanour – although I do think that she was somewhat surprised, when I decided, off-the-cuff, that she should be my next ‘Spotlight Time” victim! I did catch her off guard, but she soon warmed to the ‘challenge’.
Those who are in touch with nature are more likely to value it, appreciate our dependence on it, and be cognisant of our impact on it. Southern Cross Schools is ideally positioned to establish an awareness of our critical link with nature.
The idea of this piece is to highlight people around Hoedspruit. There is no qualification or job that needs to be done, the principle is to pick on some unsuspecting person, and get to know them. This we will do by ‘challenging’ them with some questions so that we all can get to understand where they are from, what they do and how they do whatever they do. This way we will get to appreciate who lives in the “Hoed”
Young people identified as having leadership potential are sponsored by Rotary Clubs to attend the weekend event, which allows them to test their skills through team building, problem-solving and individual self-growth exercises.
The launch of The Centre for Women’s Independence, just off Orpen Road, Acornhoek, was an incredibly colourful, vibrant event. Huge smiles were evident everywhere as the ladies took ownership of this place that exists as a home for the empowerment of women.
After a two year hiatus, the ROTARY K2C Cycle Tour finally got underway, affording cyclists the opportunity to participate in a unique and select riding experience through some of the most renown private game reserves bordering on the Kruger National Park.
